Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host is a secure, lightweight and minimized footprint operating system that is optimized to run Linux containers. A member of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux family, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host couples the flexible, lightweight and modular capabilities of Linux Containers with the reliability and security of Red Hat Enterprise Linux in a reduced image size.
Features
Optimized for Containers
Deploy a secure, integrated host platform that is designed to run container images with optimizations for scalability, density, and performance
Security
Secure and isolate applications with SELinux in containers, reducing potential attack surfaces and ensuring that if a container process goes down or is compromised, other applications and the host remain safe and functional.
Atomic Updating and Rollback
A new, simplified update mechanism for host OS lets you download and deploy updated versions in a single step. With built-in retention of a previous version of the host OS, you can easily rollback to an earlier state.
Security
Flexibility to Deploy Across the Open Hybrid Cloud
Deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Atomic Host to physical, virtual and public and private cloud environments, including Amazon Web Services and Google Compute Engine.
Red Hat Virtualization
Red Hat® Virtualization® is a complete open-source virtualization solution, derived from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux® kernel, Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) technology, and oVirt virtualization management projects.
Features
Metrics and logging
The new metrics and logging solution is built around the Elasticsearch, Fluentd, and Kibana (EFK) stack, the same stack used by Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. The new metrics store provides much more functionality and details on the RHV environment than was available previously.
Disaster Recovery (DR)
This is a native site-to-site failover solution. Instead of integrating with a specific storage vendor, it depends on storage at both sites that can be replicated reliably and consistently. Under the covers, Ansible is used extensively to automate the failover and fallback process.
Support for Ceph through the use of iSCSI
The Ceph iSCSI target has been tested and certified as a storage domain for virtual machines. This provides more infrastructure and deployment choices for engineers and architects.
Software defined networking (SDN)
Open Virtual Network (OVN) has been integrated with Red Hat Virtualization to deliver a native SDN solution through the use of Open vSwitch. It provides automated management of network infrastructure, a Neutron compatible API for external network providers, and network self-service for users, which liberates network administrators from infrastructure requests.
High Performance Virtual Machine (VM)
The RHV 4.2 release provides a new virtual machine type called High Performance when configuring VMs. It is capable of running a VM with the highest possible performance, as close to bare metal as possible. This greatly streamlines the process of configuring the characteristics of a virtual machine over the previous manual-only methods.
Updated user interface (UI)
Open Virtual Network (OVN) has been integrated with Red Hat Virtualization to deliver a native SDN solution through the use of Open vSwitch. It provides automated management of network infrastructure, a Neutron compatible API for external network providers, and network self-service for users, which liberates network administrators from infrastructure requests.
Partner ecosystem expansion
Example: Cisco ACI Integration. Cisco ACI provides overlay protocols that support both physical and virtual hosts in the same logical network even while running Layer 3 routing. This integration provides additional options for customers, especially those that use Cisco ACI as part of their infrastructure.
CENTRALIZED REPOSITORY FOR YOUR IDENTITY AND USER INFORMATION
Red Hat Directory Server is an LDAP-compliant server that centralizes user identity and application information. It provides an operating system-independent, network-based registry for storing application settings, user profiles, group data, policies, and access control information.
